What is Ultra Violet Light or UVGI ?
Ultraviolet germicidal irradiation (UVGI) is a disinfection method that uses short-wavelength ultraviolet (UV-C) light to kill or inactivate microorganisms by destroying nucleic acids and disrupting their DNA, leaving them unable to perform vital cellular functions.
Is using Ultra Violet Light for disinfecting services a new science?
UV radiant energy was first utilized for disinfecting surfaces in 1877, in water in 1910, and for air in1935.
It is an old and proven science.
What is unique about UV-C radiation is that it is especially effective at disinfection. In particular, the wavelength of 264 nm is incredibly effective at killing germs, viruses and bacteria.
I heard Ultra Violet Light creates Ozone, is this safe for a casino?
Some people may be concerned that using a UV-C LED lamp will create harmful ozone (a health and environmental hazard). However, only the vacuum-LED wavelengths can create ozone (<200 nm). UV-A, UV-B and UV-C wavelengths do not transform oxygen (in air) into ozone.

Fortunately, none of our solutions allow the consumer to look directly into the bulb. Looking directly into a UVC source of any kind can cause permanent damage and possibly loss of vision.
Do any of your products kill covid-19 ?
There are no products that can claim they "kill" covid-19. Viruses in and unto themselves are not alive. They are either active or inactive.
All hype aside, how long can bacteria or virus live on a Slot Machine or Table Game?
The exact length of time microbes remain on a surface and capable of causing infections is subject to a large number of variables, which can either prolong or reduce the life cycle of a microbe.
There are two different classifications of bacteria recognized by microbiologists; known as Gram positive and Gram negative according to the structure of the microbial cell wall.
Structurally, Gram negative strains of bacteria have an outer membrane; Gram positive strains do not.
Many Gram negative species, Acinetobacter spp., Escherichia coli, Klebsiella spp., Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Serratia marcescens and Shigella spp., for example, also survive for months on hard surfaces and typically longer than the Gram negatives. The survival time of Gram positives is relatively long because they appear to tolerate lack of moisture.
Gram positive bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus (including the antibiotic resistant form, MRSA), Enterococcus spp. (including the antibiotic resistant form, VRE) and Streptococcus pyogenes can survive for months on hard surfaces.
The survival time of Gram positives is relatively long because they appear to tolerate lack of moisture.
Candida albicans, the most important fungal pathogen, can survive for up to 4 months on surfaces and other yeasts, such as Torulopsis glabrata, , have shown the ability to survive for up to five months. Interestingly, most viruses – specifically those from the respiratory tract, such as Influenza – can persist on surfaces for only a few days, but during this period they can remain highly infectious.
Viruses are technically not living organisms, however, they need bacteria to proliferate. It is for this reason, that it is essential to prevent the growth, accumulation, and spread of bacteria in a casino environment.
Viruses don't have the correct enzymes to initiate the chemical reactions necessary for reproduction. Instead, viruses require a host cell, which in addition to bacteria, could be fungi, a plant or an animal, including a human.
With help from the host, viruses are then able to multiply.
Without the host cell, a virus cannot survive long term; however, it does have a short window of time during which it can function in hopes of attaching to a new host.
This is when the host becomes infected.
Outside its host, a virus can be divided into two categories — either it can be intact and remain infectious or it is simply identifiable, which means it has enough genetic material to be identified, but is no longer capable of attaching to host cells.
At the point that a virus on a surface is only identifiable, it won't be able to cause harm.
The length of time that viruses can live on surfaces and remain infectious varies greatly by pathogen.
What research has been done concerning Covid-19 on surfaces?
A March 13 study by researchers at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and multiple universities compared the novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) with SARS-CoV-1, the most closely related human coronavirus and the virus responsible for the 2003 epidemic.
The non-peer-reviewed study found that the two viruses have similar viability in the environment; however, the study determined the novel coronavirus could survive up to three days on stainless steel and plastic surfaces. Survival on other surfaces was lower — just one day on cardboard and four hours on copper.
The results indicated that novel coronavirus can live in the air for hours and on surfaces up to days.
Another research study published March 17, 2020, in the New England Journal of Medicine by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and Princeton University also found that the stability of novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) was similar to that of SARS-CoV-1 under the experimental circumstances tested.
However, novel coronavirus was more stable than SARS-CoV-1.
In their experiments, SARS-CoV-2 remained viable in aerosol form for up to three hours.
Viable coronavirus was detected on plastic and stainless steel up to 72 hours after application.
No viable coronavirus was measured after four hours on copper surfaces, and 24 hours on cardboard.
In addition to surface material and environment, the amount of virus on the surface can also help determine how long it will survive.
While it is possible to spread viruses like cold and flu through sharing objects, personal contact is the most common mechanism of spreading viruses.
